Located on the Point Grey campus in Vancouver the Life Sciences Institute (LSI) at the University of British Columbia is a global leader in life sciences research. The LSI Diabetes Research Group is a collaborative team of academic health researchers working on discovery science. With access to cutting edge core facilities the Diabetes Research Group attract researchers and trainees from around the World to train in Canada.

Canucks for Kids Fund Childhood Diabetes Laboratories
BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute
The Canucks for Kids Fund Childhood Diabetes Laboratories was established in 2012 with its aim to improve the lives of children with diabetes by advancing knowledge of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, through innovative and multi-disciplinary basic and clinical diabetes research. Research is aimed at understanding the causes of types 1 and 2 diabetes and improving treatments. Located at the BC Children's Hospital the translational research team of scientists and clinicians offers researchers and trainees a community of research focussed on diabetes innovation.

Breakthrough T1D Centre of Excellence at UBC

The University of British Columbia is home to the first Breakthrough T1D Centre of Excellence in type 1 diabetes in Canada, joining other locations as one of just five Centres worldwide.
A Breakthrough T1D Centre of Excellence is a cost-effective innovation hub that leverages existing research facilities, talent and infrastructure, which allows dollars to be funnelled to research rather than overhead, and provides the framework to move type 1 diabetes research to that next frontier.
